Mindset Fitness Success Ep10- Should You Exercise When You’re Sick?

When it comes to forming exercise as a habit, one of the stumbling blocks that I see in the initial phases before that habit is fully solidified into your lifestyle, is when people get sick. What happens is they may miss a few days or a week or two weeks depending on the severity of how sick they are, and that break in the routine is enough to set them off onto another pattern of not exercising again.

My general recommendation is, if you are at the point where you’re fully bedridden, and there’s absolutely no way that you can train, and there would be no benefits from training, in that case I would say definitely don’t exercise and just rest and allow your body to heal itself. However in most other cases, it would be recommended to maintain your routine. In the case where you’ve got a bit of a cold or even when you have a bit of a headache and are feeling a bit achy, there’s a point where just keeping that routine in place, so not missing out on the workout but doing something at a lower intensity is really beneficial.

It might be going for a walk, or still completing your workout but doing it in a shorter fashion and not peaking your intensity quite up as high, just going through the motions of your routine can be a beneficial thing in terms of not allowing everything to unravel and to fall into old bad patterns of behavior and old habits of not exercising.
